Meet Oshie Egbajie
Master of Business Administration

The Choice Is His

Oshie Egbajie could have chosen almost any U.S. business school he wanted. He graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Calabar, one of Nigeria’s most prestigious universities, near the top of his class. Arriving in Houston shortly after finishing undergraduate studies in his home country, Oshie looked at the big-name business schools in the city. And then he decided against them all. Oshie enrolled in the MBA degree program at AIU Houston.

“In America, education can be all about going somewhere that has a big name. Once I started thinking about it, I saw I didn’t want a school that was best known for its name, but a school that really taught me what I needed to know to succeed, that could offer me one-on-one attention from professors, and that showed me how to back up my degree with real knowledge.”

Not surprisingly, money and time were factors as well. “Did I really want to pay $80,000 and be in school for twice as long when I could pay much less, get out in a shorter amount of time, and have what I consider a better education? No.”

Having graduated with his MBA in September 2005, Oshie doesn’t regret his choice at all. In job interviews he’s been up against MBA grads from the big-name schools he had considered.and Oshie was offered the job. “Those guys might have the fancy degree, but in the end it all comes down to the person, and each person proving themselves. AIU set me up to do that.”

Oshie hasn’t just been offered one job, though. “I’m telling you, as soon as I graduated, the offers started coming in left and right. People would call and send emails every day. It’s all about choice now. My choice.”
